After trying to play Team Fortress 2 on my Mac throught the OS X client of Steam, I’ve come to the conclusion that I will continue to use Windows for my games. Valve specifically said that their games would not be some lousy ports of the Windows versions, yet somehow it feels a lot like a extremely bad port. Every time I tried to play TF2, I experienced that the loading screens are about 3 times as long on the “native” Mac version as the Windows one. If fact, last night I fell asleep while waiting for 2Fort to load. Yeah.
And of course, the game was lagging so extremely much that it rendered it nearly unplayable. I had to lower my visual settings to below what was recommended for my MacBook. And of course, each time I tried to exit this horrible experience, the whole thing froze, and wouldn’t come back to life. I had to force shut down. Every time I tried TF2.
I don’t know what happened, because I have Windows 7 on a different partition on my MacBook, and I play TF2 just fine there, with a LOT better visual effects, no lags, and no freezes. This means there’s definitely nothing wrong with my machine. And I have Call of Duty: Modern Warfare for Mac (yes, it’s a lousy Mac port of the Windows version, but still.) which is much more demanding than TF2, yet it runs extremely well on my MacBook. So there’s nothing wrong with the OS (which I sincerely hope for your own sake you already knew.), so this just leaves Valve’s port. I feel somehow ripped off, but thank fucking God that I didn’t have to pay to download this crappy version. Instead of giving me what you promised; a native OS X Steam client and Valve games, I feel like you’ve given me a used nappy.
I know a lot of iMac owners have been happy with what they’ve experienced, but there’s absolutely no reason why they should be able to play on their computers with OS X, and I can’t. Valve; please fix this shit.
